Kasha Solanki, a teacher at the BALSEWA Daycare Center, sits with her student, three-year-old Prince Gupta, who attends the Center while his mother works. BALSEWA is run by the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), a trade union for poor, self-employed women in the informal sector, to help informal workers access affordable daycare for their children. BALSEWA charges just 150 rupees a month and also hosts health check-ups, nutrition workshops, and educational programming.
