Description
Milagros Neira Saavedra (left) and his father Julio Neira Solís (right) sell party items and toys at an informal market managed by the Asociación de Comerciantes El Triunfador de Confraternindad, an affiliate of RENATTA (Red Nacional de Trabajadoras y Trabajadores Autoempleados). Like many street vendors, they face uncertainty regarding the use of public spaces for their work. Being organized has enabled them to respond to the community’s demand to have a local market by building some infrastructure in the lot they used as a street market and to make their case for the use of that space with the municipal authorities and other groups. .
